2. Back Up is Always the Key: Make sure to Get an Additional Email Address
Before you begin your domain transfer process, make sure to set up an email with another service.
Countless people, often out of habit, utilize the email service that is tied to their domain. And although website hosting companies are improving immensely in how much time you lose access; you are still more than likely to lose it to your email service for your domain name.
As a precautionary move, make sure to set up a secondary email. Any basic site, from Yahoo to Hotmail to Google, will work just fine.
It is important that you have a substitute for your means of communication if anything happens.
As the old saying goes, it is better to have it and not need it, then to need it and not have it.
3. Paying Attention to Details is Key
Almost everything in domain transfer is done for you. But there are a few things you mustn’t forget:
- See if you can request for your domain to be unlocked.
- Request an authorization code.
- Check and see how long it has been since a previous transfer.
These may seem like trifles, but all three are very important in your transfer.

What is required by law is a registrar giving you your authorization code within five days of you asking for it. Five days isn’t that long, but remember, if you are in a hurry: five days can feel like forever.
And speaking of days, it is vital that you check and see how long it’s been since your last transfer. By law, you cannot transfer domains in less than sixty days.
